Happy Father's Day!

For Father's Day this past Sunday we celebrated the day by going out to eat at Tom's favorite restaurant - Buffalo Wild Wings. Tom and Sawyer sure did like the raspberry tea!



Then it was off to the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison. I was impressed that Sawyer turned his head in the right position for his penguin ;)

The wonderful day ended with the boys relaxing and watching some TV. We love you daddy; thank you for ALL that you do for us!

Brotherly Love

Sawyer has completely amazed Tom and I!!! I will be honest that I was nervous bringing Mason home. We never really explained to Sawyer the whole concept of him having a brother. We did say that I had a baby in my belly and that he was going to have a brother, but seriously, how can a 23 month old grasp the complete concept of that.



Sawyer LOVES his brother!!! Whenever Mason is either on his bed (this only happens during story time at night) or on my bed Sawyer will get right next to him and cuddle. We actually have to monitor this because Sawyer wants to be so close to him that he wants to actually lay right on top of him.


When Mason is in his swing or bouncy chair we have to make sure we strap him in because Sawyer will eventually get over to Mason and try to pick him up.



Sawyer will never pass up an opportunity to either give Mason a hug or a kiss.



They love each other so much that they even has matching bottoms!!! One is a size 1 diaper and the other a size 4.


When Mason cries you will then hear Sawyer say "Oh baby" no matter where he is or what he is doing. One night Sawyer was in his room whinning because he did not want to go to bed. Mason then started to cry and in the midst of the whining you hear "oh baby". Also when Mason starts to cry Sawyer will try to give Mason his pacifier.



If someone is holding Mason (including Tom and I) Sawyer will walk up to him and give him a kiss. I think this is Sawyer's way of letting Mason know that Sawyer knows where he is at and that he is in good hands.

Mason at Two Weeks old!

I know that technically Mason is already three weeks old but at least I am only a week late ;)

On Sunday June 13th Mason turned two weeks old!!! He is already beginning to change. His hair is becoming lighter in color and with a redish tint to it. His eyes are also changing; they are still blue but not as dark as they were.


On Wednesday June 16th he had his two week check-up. He is now 9lbs 12 ozs (75-90%), is 21 1/4" (75%) which is the same length he was when he was born - I think they measured him wrong, and his head is 36.9 (50%).


Mason is a very content baby!!! He is now sleeping for four hours at a time at night (one night it was 6 1/2 hours!). He enjoys looking around and trying to find his very active brother. He also enjoys sitting in his swing by the patio door listening to the birds and his daddy and brother work outside.

Urgent Care

On Monday (June 7th) Tom and Sawyer were working on the shed. It was going to rain that night so they were putting tarps over what was done so that the wood would not get wet. I was inside getting Mason ready for bed and I heard a cry come from Sawyer that meant he was hurt. I went out there to see what was up and Tom was already "inspecting" Sawyer to see what where the damage was. Neither one of us noticed anything so we figured he just fell and was overly tired which makes things always worse (it was his bedtime). I took him inside to get him ready for bed and figured I would notice something when I would put his PJ's on.

Once we got in the house I noticed that his eye was bleeding. I quickly looked at it and noticed that in the crease of his eyelid was a big cut. I ran back outside and hollered for Tom to come inside. After Tom looked at it we decided to take him into Urgent Care because we could not tell if his eye was damaged or not.

So now we knew he had fallen on a screw that was drilled half-way into the shed so that the tarps could be hooked on...YIKES!

Once they looked him over at UC they said that his eye was fine but that his cut was big enough for stitches. Neither one of us were 100% comfortable with this just because we know that Sawyer does not like to be held down and to have him fighting you while holding him down plus a needle going into his eyelid would not end well. They then informed us that we could glue the wound; this is what we did then.

Then yesterday Sawyer was outside again helping daddy build the shed. Tom has a board laid out on top of two horses to create a table. Sawyer then took off running and didn't see where he was going due to the sun being in his eye and ran right into the board. The shed is beginning to win :(

Going Home!

Mason all ready to go home!!! We went home on Memorial Day (May 31st) with Sawyer we went home on the 4th of July; we are beginning to think our boys like holidays!

The same day we came home we went over to Papa and Mie Mie's house; the Schoessow's were having a get together. Sawyer decided to give Mason a ride on the tractor - don't worry we never started the engine ;)



Sawyer has absolutely loved having a baby brother! He is always making sure he knows where Mason is and is always eager to help (including burping him). The first night home after Sawyer was ready for bed he went running into Mason's room and stepped up onto the crib so that he could say good-night to his brother; it was so cute!



We were about ready to leave the house and as Tom and I were getting the final things all ready I looked over and Sawyer had knelt on the floor and was attending to his brother; he is such a big helper!

Mason Thomas

Meeting Mason Thomas for the first time! Mason was born on May 30th (two weeks early) at 5:09am and weighed 8lbs 15.8 ounces and was 21 1/4 inches long!

Birthing Story

Saturday morning (the 29th of May) we decided to head to the grocery store to buy some food now that I was officially home and no more spending time in the hospital. When we got to the store (Tom, Sawyer and I) I noticed that I had some "leakage". I headed to the bathroom right away thinking that I had started to bleed; there was no blood so we continued on. This was at about 10:00am.

Tom then headed out to go golfing and Sawyer and I hung out at my mom's. I decided that even though I was officially off of bed-rest to still take it easy for at least the weekend. Throughout the day though I had some small leakage here and there. When we all got back home together I talked to Tom and said that I was going to go to the hospital because I was beginning to think that my water had broken. With Sawyer they had to break my water so I didn't know what to expect and had heard that it can either be a gush or a trickle.

I arrived at the hospital at 8:00pm. They hooked me up to the monitor to see how the baby was doing and then ran the test to see if my water had broken. When the nurse came back (it is now 8:30pm) she said "so guess what", I said "it's not my water" and then she said "it's positive" and then I said "seriously, my water broke". She said that it did and all I could do was lean my head back and give a chuckle and then stated "I just got out of the hospital yesterday and they were going to induce me today". I just couldn't believe it.

Tom dropped Sawyer off at my mom's and came to the hospital. The nurse kept telling me how she couldn't believe how calm I was for about ready to have a baby. I just simply told her that all I could think about is how I didn't take a shower today because I wanted to be lazy on my first day being back home for good. She told me that I could take a shower before they started my IV with fluids!!!!

By 10:50pm they started me on fluid (to keep hydrated), antibiotic (since it had been over 12 hours since my water had broken) and pitocin (they needed to get the baby out due to the water breaking and I was only 1cm dilated). The night progressed as normal (still had back labor just like Sawyer) and I started to push at around 4:50am and Mason was born at 5:09am!!!

To get you up to speed this is what happened next. On Friday morning (the 28th) Dr. Davidson came into my room to check up on me. She asked if there was any further bleeding to which I replied that there wasn't. She then decided to let me go home and not induce me at all. I left the hospital on Friday no longer considered a high-risk pregnancy!!! God (once again) did a miracle and moved the placenta!!! I was sent home no longer on bed-rest/couch potato rest, no c-section, no induce date and just was told for the baby to come on his/her own!

God is so good all the time! I left the hospital feeling super blessed that God would take such special care of His daughter!
